In Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather(1972), Marlon Brandon wanted to make his character Don Vito Corleone appear "like a bulldog" so he stuffed his cheeks with cotton wool for the audience. During the actual filming however, he wore a mouthpiece specially made for him by a dentist.

However, in a radio interview in late 2003 with Howard Stern, Tarantino answered that "it was whatever the viewer wanted it to be", preferring to keep it purposefully anonymous so that each viewer can "fill in that blank" themselves.
In The Game of Death(1978), Bruce Lee's character fakes his own death to throw off his pursuers. The actor passed away before the film was completed and footage of his funeral was actually used in the film for the character's funeral scenes.

The mask was in fact a William Shatner mask from Star Trek(1966).
Christian Bale is well known for his dedication in preparing for his roles, even dropping from 173 pounds in weight to about 110 pounds for his role as Trevor Reznik in Brad Anderson's The Machinist(2004).
