Legendary English actor, film director, film producer and President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art(RADA) Richard Samuel Attenborough, Baron Attenborough ,CBE, passed away yesterday at age 90 on 24 August 2014. I will always remember him as John Hammond from Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park(1993). May he rest in peace.
Shooting for The Hateful Eight is set to begin early 2015. John R. Leonetti, who served as cinematographer for 5 of James Wan's films i.e Dead Silence(2007), Death Sentence(2007), Insidious(2011), The Conjuring(2013), Insidious: Chapter 2(2013) has now inherited the directorial hot-seat for Annabelle(2014). The film is a spin-off of The Conjuring(2013), where the doll Annabelle was first introduced to audiences. Though the doll's history was only briefly mentioned and hinted at in The Conjuring(2013), it will be fully explored and exposed in this film.
Annabelle is set for a October 3, 2014 release date. Enjoy this new trailer in the meantime. Nicholas Cage is at it again in another one of his more questionable roles, as a battling medieval crusader in 12th century China that, together with Hayden Christensen, seek to help the children of a deposed Chinese emperor in reclaiming the throne from their usurper Uncle...yup...oh...and he is known as...The White Ghost. Directed by Nick Powell, Outcast looks to be another East-meets-West type of flick, or rather, East-meets-Cage in this case.
Outcast is set for a September 24th,2014 release date in China and February 27th, 2015 in the United States. Apparently, there have already been talks about a sequel. *Don't feel ashamed for rewinding the trailer several times for the Cage bits. After all, he IS The WHITE Ghost. Jungle Book: Origins will be Andy Serkis'(who will also be playing the part of the easy-going and fun-loving bear Baloo) directorial debut and his take on Rudyard Kipling's tale The Jungle Book and already he has assembled quite a star-studded cast. So far, Benedict Cumberbatch is set to play the fearsome tiger Shere Khan, Christian Bale is set to play the powerful and protective panther Bagheera, Cate Blanchett is set to play the hypnotic and dangerous snake Kaa and Rohan Chand is set to play Mowgli, the young human orphan raised in the jungle.
Principal photography is set to begin soon, using a mixture of live-action, performance capture and CG animation to bring the story to life. The film is set for October 21, 2016. Directed by Jennifer Kent, The Babadook(2014) revolves around Amelia, a single mother who is still dealing with the violent death of her husband 6 months earlier. To make matters worse, her 6-year old son Samuel has been having nightmares about a terrible monster. One day, a freaky storybook called Mister Babadook lands on their doorstep, a story about the same monster that her son dreams about, leading Amelia to think that perhaps her son has not been imagining it at all...
The Babadook(2014) is set to debut in the UK at FrightFest before hitting general release on October 24th. After suffering many delays and troubles, Marvel's Ant-Man has finally begun filming with Peyton Reed at the director's helm. Having dealt mostly with rom-coms in the past(eg. Yes Man(2008), The Break-Up(2006), Down With Love(2003)), it will be interesting to see how Reed will deal with his first superhero film. Some of the cast includes Paul Rudd in the title role of Scott Lang a.k.a Ant Man, Michael Douglas as his mentor Dr Hank Pym and Evangeline Lily as Hope Van Dyne, Pym's daughter.
The film is set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015. When I heard the news today that Robin Williams had passed away, I was shocked beyond belief. Shocked because this actor starred in so many films that I had grown up with that he had become part of my childhood, one that I always look back upon fondly. Here I have included some pictures of him in the films that I remember him by. These are obviously not all the films that he has starred in, but these are the ones that are still there in my memory after all these years. Looking at these stills I can't help but feel that it is truly such a tragedy that the world has lost one of its greatest-ever actors. He seemed to be able to adapt so easily to such demanding roles, from the calm and wise advise-giving mentor in Good Will Hunting(1997) to the mad eccentricities of Genie in Aladdin(1992), Robin Williams had an acting range that was vast and diverse, with a boundless energy that excited his fellow actors and the audience alike. It's an unfortunate and distasteful truth, knowing that I will never get to watch any new films with him in it, because he is definitely up there on my list of favourite actors who will always give a quality performance. His passing saddens me greatly, feeling as though a big part of my childhood, and hence myself, has left this world. It has been a great pleasure watching his films all through my life and I hope he finds peace wherever he has gone.
Here's to one of the best actors of all time, Robin Mclaurin Williams, you will be sorely missed. Rest in peace. "From joy all beings have come and unto joy they all return" -The Upanishads |
