Reflections
For this exercise, we were tasked to recreate a short scene from the film Wings of Desire. This was to prepare us for our final adaptation assignment. We chose to film it at a coffee stand along High Street, a decision that I feel is regrettable given the amount of traffic noise that we inevitably picked up while shooting.
Another thing that I wished we paid more attention to was lighting. There are some scenes were the shadows of those offscreen are clearly visible on those onscreen. This was the reason why I edited the shots in post-production in order to decrease exposure as much as possible so that hopefully the shadows will not be so noticeable.
In terms of location, we could have picked a better one instead however, without time to make a proper agreement with any coffee stalls, other ones saw too much human traffic that would have been very disruptive for our shoot. We therefore settled on this one along High Street that was only empty because it was closed.
Overall, I think that this was a great exercise in allowing us to realise how difficult it is to recreate a scene and that most of the time, it is not possible to recreate a scene completely. One then has to plan how to deal with the differences such that the remake still keeps with the spirit with the original and can therefore be considered a successful remake.
